Freedom of expression
The right to
freedom of opinion and expression is a derivation of the fundamental right of
every human being to personal freedom, this right is closely linked to the
rights to freedom of conscience, freedom of assembly, right to individual or
collective property, right to protection against arbitrary interference with
your privacy. The right to freedom of opinion and expression protects citizens
in two ways, both those who express themselves and those who receive expression
in any medium, that is: freedom of the press and the right to receive
information. And yet all these rights that derive from the fundamental right to
personal liberty are systematically violated in Ecuador.
The Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, to which Ecuador is subscribed, expresses in its
article 19:
Art 19. Every
individual has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; This right
includes that of not being disturbed because of their opinions, that of
investigating and receiving information and opinions, and that of disseminating
them, without limitation of borders, by any means of expression.
This right
has been systematically violated in Ecuador, the main international human
rights organizations, international journalism organizations, see and have
expressed their concern about the Ecuadorian case of clear, flagrant, proven
and systematic violations of the rights of expression. and its derivations: to
choose and obtain information and to transmit information through the media.
To defend the
right to freedom of expression, I reflect on the responsibility we assume when
informing, denouncing, and validating or invalidating the circumstances and
ideologies that surround us.
In my opinion
you have to know how to differentiate between freedom and licentiousness, you have to know what are the limits
of freedom of expression and remember that the fish die by the mouth.
